I always look forward to your first day of school pics!

How does the wild one like school so far? What's young miss doing for a schedule this year? Is the school offering good support? (As one whose become a champion advocator for my guys, my positive vibes go your way.)

This year is looking to be....frustrating. Nature Girl is trying out full time right now. We'll see how it goes, but I have a feeling she'll be doing math at home again this year. She's excited about art, science, and gym. Her gym teacher is the resource teacher and he is the most well loved teacher in the school. I need to sit down with him.

Wild Thing is not into it yet, he likes the math activities though - pattern blocks. The only animated conversation he's had about school was telling me about a girl who bit a boy in the armpit.

Darkmirror, UGH! He will not advocate for himself, and thats there big push at this point as far as support goes. I'm going to have to go in. Its all so irritating I don't want to discuss it. Lets just say I'm going outside the school to the regional mental health services to get him useful support that won't totally bias colleges and universities against him (and this isn't a school issue, it has to do with quotas in the universities and colleges. He allow bears responsibility - his grades are all over the place and a large part of that is simply not caring. A's in science, D's in math. UGH! What he needs is career counselling up the wazoo and an extra year in high school and he just wants OUT but with zero plans for the future.

I hear ya.

We suffer from the same inconsistent effort and lack of self advocacy, and we've just embarked on our high school journey. I wonder how much intervening I should do at this age.

Fortunately, we have some good supports in place. Now if he will just use them.

Don't despair over the battle - it's worth it. Especially with Nature Girl, since girls with their superior social skills are more likely to take advantage of the supports. Make sure the school gives her everything she's entitled to.

My guys were both fond of the pattern blocks too. Maybe you've got another math brain there.
